Joey Ancona Grabs Fourth at Plaza Park, Suffers Motor Trouble While Leading at Lemoore!

Story by Walker Racing Promotions (Collin Markle Photography)
Lemoore, CA | August 12, 2015 – Coming off of his fifth victory of the season just two weeks earlier at Lemoore Raceway, Joey Ancona entered this weekend’s doubleheader with plenty of excitement as the “King of California” chase kicked off. After running fourth during Friday’s event at Plaza Park Raceway, the Concord, California native led the opening seven laps of Lemoore’s main event until motor trouble haunted his Dryco Construction, Inc, Westbury Ironworks, Factory Kahne No. 88.

Starting the weekend off at Plaza Park Raceway in Visalia, Ancona timed in eighth quick with a time of 11.828 seconds as he made it into the heat race inversion. After leading over half of his heat, a clogged fuel filter shuffled him back a second place finish.

Rolling out in the fourth spot for the 25-lap Restricted feature, Ancona would immediately move into third off the start. After taking over second on lap five, a heated battle would break out as Ancona and his fellow racers would swap the position for several laps. Again sliding into second near halfway, the five-time winner in 2015 would eventually drop back to fourth in the closing laps, as he crossed the line with a strong top five finish to open the weekend.

Heading to Lemoore Raceway on Saturday night, Ancona turned in a phenomenal qualifying run as he laid down a third place time of 12.130 seconds. Following that a dominant heat race victory from third would line the young gun up in fourth for the feature.

Making a daring move on the start, he would roar his Ancona Motorsports No. 88 into the race lead from fourth in just one lap. Extending his lead and looking to earn his sixth win of the year, the talented 10-year old would find tough luck as after leading the opening seven laps of the 25-lapper, motor trouble forced him into the infield as he relinquished his strong lead.

There will be no action this weekend for Ancona, but he will return in two weeks on August 21st and 22nd as he attempts Plaza Park and Lemoore again. Competing in the “King of California” chase, Ancona will look to piece together a strong season ending run as he hopes to claim the prestigious title.
Ancona would like to send a special thanks to Dryco Construction, Inc., Westbury Ironworks, Steve Hamblin, Motion Media, Factory Kahne, and crew member Jeff Tucker for their continued support.
